Sreesanth handed 3-year ban after criticising KCA over Sanju Samson's exclusion

In a significant development, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has imposed a three-year suspension on former India pacer Sreesanth, barring him from participating in any cricket-related activity under its jurisdiction. The decision was made in response to what the association described as 'untrue and insulting statements' made by Sreesanth against the state cricket board, in connection with the controversy surrounding Sanju Samson's omission from the Champions Trophy squad. The ruling was finalised during a special general body meeting of the KCA held in Ernakulam on Wednesday. The association also resolved to initiate legal proceedings against Samson’s father, Samson Vishwanath, accusing him of levelling baseless allegations against the KCA. Sreesanth, who is currently a co-owner of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) franchise Kollam Aries, had openly criticised the KCA in a televised Malayalam panel discussion. He condemned the board for dropping Sanju Samson from Kerala’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a move widely speculated to have impacted Samson’s selection prospects for the national team in the Champions Trophy 2025. During the discussion, Sreesanth vocally supported Samson and other Kerala cricketers, pledging to protect their interests and calling out what he perceived as biased decisions by the state association. His remarks were not well-received by the KCA, which viewed them as damaging to its reputation and integrity. Following his statements, show-cause notices were issued not only to Sreesanth but also to the Kollam Aries franchise, the Alleppey Team Lead content creator Sai Krishnan, and the Alleppey Ripples team. However, during the general body meeting, the KCA noted that the franchise teams had responded satisfactorily to the notices. As a result, the association decided not to pursue further action against the teams. Nonetheless, a directive was issued urging franchises to exercise caution when selecting individuals for roles within team management going forward. The suspension marks another contentious chapter in Sreesanth’s tumultuous relationship with cricket authorities. Having previously faced a life ban from the BCCI (later overturned), this latest disciplinary action underscores the KCA’s intent to protect its image amid escalating disputes within the Kerala cricketing fraternity.

The IPL 2025 is set to enter its 51st clash, which will be played between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. GT, placed in the fourth position, will be eager to get back to winning ways against SRH. If the Shubman Gill-led side manage to win the clash, they will register their seventh win of the season, making it difficult for other teams to reach top four. IPL 2025 | "We are going back to simple cricket": Hardik Pandya post win vs RR

In the IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mumbai Indians (MI) came victorious by a margin of 100 runs. Following the win, skipper Hardik Pandya said that going back to simple cricket is working for them. "Everyone is very clear and we are going back to simple cricket, it is working for us and hopefully it continues. We want to be humble, very disciplined and keep focusing," said Hardik Pandya at the post-match presentation. The skipper was impressed with the way MI batsmen showcased their skills with the willow. He termed the display as proper batsmanship. Also Read: IPL 2025: Jasprit Bumrah moves upward on list of highest wicket-takers "We could have got another 15 runs. What we were trying to speak to each other was to play percentage shots. Surya and I said there's value for shots... Ro (Rohit) and Ryan batted the same way. I think it was absolutely fantastic. It is never about people getting chances; it's about what is required in the situation. People are going back to batsmanship. As a group, the way we batted was proper batsmanship". Batting first in the IPL 2025 match, Mumbai Indians posted 217 runs on board for the loss of just two wickets. Ryan Rickelton smashed 61 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma's 53. RR's stand-in captain Riyan Parag reflected on his side's loss by saying it wasn't their day. "We have to give credit to the way MI played. The way they batted, took the game a little deep, kept the 10 runs per over consistency and accelerated in the end. As far as our batting is concerned it wasn't our day," he said. "We have been getting good starts but it is up to the middle order - myself, Dhruv, for us to step up when we lose wickets in the powerplay, but we still back ourselves, if another situation (like today) comes up then we will be up for it" he added. Parag concluded by saying we have to focus on the things we have done right this season. "We have done a lot of things right, lot of things wrong, we want to focus on the things we have done right, lot of mistakes, lot of small errors, focus on how to not make them and we have had a few close matches." IPL 2025: Trent Boult praises MI's batsmen post 100-run win vs RR

In the IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mumbai Indians (MI) won by a huge margin of 100 runs. Following the triumph, MI's star pacer Trent Boult said that his side's strong batting setup led them to a total of 217 runs in 20 overs. "As a unit, can't ask for much more than that. It was set up nicely by the batters. 217 was a great score on that wicket. Great all-around performance. There are a lot of combinations there, a lot of experience, and we're doing well. 6 from 6 is great," Trent Boult said in the post-match presentation. Further, he stated that T20 cricket is all about executing plans and Bumrah's addition has also played a huge role in the side's campaign. Also Read: All gone for Rs 8.5L to Indian-origin bizman! "T20 cricket is about momentum. It's delivering on the plans we've got in place. Lucky enough to have some experience playing here. Always a good challenge, they have a couple of boundary-hitters at the top, knew they were going to come hard. (On Bumrah) Huge addition to our squad, missed out on a few games early, but he needs no introduction. Job's done well, looking forward to the next one," he added. The stunning show from spinner Karn Sharma, Boult and Bumrah helped MI to a dominating win by 100 runs over Rajasthan. The victory also marked Mumbai's sixth win in the IPL 2025. RR was bowled out for 117 chasing a huge target of 218. This was the first win for MI against RR in Jaipur since 2012 after four consecutive losses. Boult finished his spell with a brilliant bowling display, picking up three wickets in a spell of two overs. In the first essay of the match, Ryan Rickelton yet again displayed his class by playing a knock of 61 runs off just 38 deliveries. His knock was laced with seven boundaries and three maximums. Fellow opening batsman Rohit Sharma smashed 53 runs in 36 balls, including nine boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Hardik Pandya stayed unbeaten on 48 runs each. Suryakumar's knock saw him hit four boundaries and three maximums. On the other hand, Panyda's unbeaten knock included six boundaries and a maximum. (With ANI Inputs)

"Poor form has affected the entire team": Varun Aaron on CSK exit

Former Team India pacer Varun Aaron feels that Chennai Super Kings' poor form has affected the entire team in the IPL 2025. The pacer highlighted Matheesha Pathirana's struggles to claim wickets. Aaron stated that the slinger has changed his action and has bowled 31 extras this season, which is a lot for a lead bowler. "I think poor form has affected the entire team, especially the bowling unit. CSK really depended on Pathirana to get them wickets at the back end and defend totals, but he's been completely off the boil. He's changed his action a bit, he's not landing his yorkers, and has bowled 31 extras this tournament, that's a lot for a frontline bowler," Varun Aaron said while speaking on Match Centre Live on JioHotstar. Also Read: IPL 2025: Trent Boult praises MI's batsmen post 100-run win vs RR Further, the former cricketer feels that Chennai lacked the energy in the middle overs before the inclusion of Dewald Brevis. After the South African joined the squad, he provided that stability with the bat, but it was too late for the side in the campaign. Aaron said that CSK can't be dependent on someone like MS Dhoni to finish the matches for 18 years. "With the bat, they've lacked impetus in the middle overs. Brevis has come in and provided a bit of high-octane energy, but before that, it was missing. They need to go back to the drawing board and evaluate what went wrong at the auction. They don't have someone like Tristan Stubbs or Tim David to finish innings. Yes, MS Dhoni is there, but you can't keep depending on him for 18 years," he added. Following the loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Dhoni-led Chennai are nothing but out of the playoffs race of the IPL 2025. The defeat also marked their fifth loss at the home venue, Chepauk. PBKS is now at the third spot in the table with six wins, three losses, giving them 13 points. CSK is struggling at the bottom, with two wins and eight losses, giving them four points. CSK will now lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their upcoming IPL 2025 fixture at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. (With ANI Inputs)

Ram Chhabra

All gone for Rs 8.5L to Indian-origin bizman!

Sydney-based businessman of Indian origin, Ram Chhabra won bids for all three Indian cricket related items that were auctioned for charity at The Chappell Foundation’s (TCF) eighth annual dinner in Sydney on Wednesday. Australian-born Chhabra, 48, bought India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series bat (AUD 6000, approx Rs 3.25 lakh), a bat signed by members of the Indian team which participated in the same series for AUD 4500 (approx Rs 2.43 lakh) and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s helmet for AUD 5000 (approx Rs 2.70 lakh). In all, he spent AUD 15,500 (approx Rs 8.5 lakh). “I’m extremely thrilled,” Chhabra, who is in the travel business, told mid-day shortly after landing in Sydney from his Fiji office on Thursday night. “Getting memorabilia signed on equipment that has been used is very rare,” he said, referring to the bat of Jaiswal, who shrugged off his first innings duck in the opening Test at Perth to score a match-winning 161 for India to go one-up in the series there. Getting a bat signed by a team is special but getting a signed one from a champion team is very special.” Some members of India’s 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy team were in Rohit Sharma’s side that won last year’s T20 World Cup.  Chhabra is also happy that the money he spent is going for a good cause — to help homeless people across Australia. “Australia does have a serious issue about homelessness and it’s getting worse as cost of living here gets higher and higher,” he said. India’s Rishabh Pant (right) after being hit on the helmet by Mitchell Starc during the Sydney Test in 2021. Pics/Getty Images Chhabra’s purchases were made through a secret auction (electronically conveyed bids) at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he is a regular for matches. He praised TCF’s Indian-born, Australia resident chairman, Darshak Mehta: “Darshak has been a great ambassador of TCF and he has spent a lot of time and effort over the years to build a lot of attention around the homeless issue. It gives me peace of mind that the money I have given is going for a good cause,” he said. Meanwhile, according to Mehta,  the annual dinner helped raise AUD 435,000.  “Another prominent businessman, Harv Kler, donated AUD 15,000 and also bought a Dennis Lillee donated pictorial frame, The Fastest and the Best for nearly AUD 5000 (Rs 2.5 lakh). Yet another, Arjun Bhalla, bought a Phil Mickelson signed Masters Golf Flag for AUD 2050,” said Mehta. “This will be distributed by TCF in grants to seven smaller charities who help ameliorate youth homelessness in Australia,” he said. Apart from pace legend Lillee, the special guest, the function was also attended by former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, former Cricket Australia’s CEOs James Sutherland and Nick Hockley as well as the current CEO Todd Greenberg. There were 10 Australian Olympians in the room apart from cricketers like Greg Chappell, his younger brother Trevor, Simon Katich, Gavin Robertson, Stuart Clark and Geoff Lawson. Five hundred and fifty cricket buffs (A TCT Annual Dinner record) attended the glittering event despite wet weather in Sydney.   Who does Chhabra support in India v Australia contests? “Dil hai Hindustani. I’m always torn between my motherland and birthplace when India or Australia win, but all I want is a great series and I got that [in 2024-25], said Chhabra whose prized possessions also include a Sir Don Bradman-signed bat and ex-Australia speed great Brett Lee’s cricket boots.

GT eye quick turnaround while SRH fight to stay alive

Gujarat Titans will look to bounce back from the carnage that wonder boy Vaibhav Suryavanshi inflicted on them when they face a stuttering Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL match here on Friday. GT were left stunned when Rajasthan Royals’s Suryavanshi took the game by storm, smashing the fastest century of the season in just 35 balls and becoming the youngest ever to score an IPL ton at just 14 years and 32 days. The eight-wicket defeat was crushing despite GT posting a formidable 209-4. The Shubman Gill-led side is currently placed comfortably with six wins from nine matches (12 points). Also Read: IPL 2025 | "I know how hungry he is for success": Ponting on Shreyas Iyer Back at home, GT will be buoyed by their in-form top-order. Sai Sudharsan (456 runs) has been their standout performer. Gill (389 runs) and Jos Buttler (406 runs) also feature among the season’s Top-7 run-getters, forming a formidable trio at the top despite recent hiccups. On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna has led the attack impressively, forming a strong pace trio alongside Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma. In the spin department, Rashid Khan’s return to form — especially his 2-25 against Kolkata Knight Riders — is a major boost, while Washington Sundar has been a steady support option. In the reverse fixture earlier this season, GT had registered a commanding seven-wicket win over SRH in Hyderabad, built around Mohammed Siraj’s sensational spell of 4-17. A month later, they’ll be hoping for an encore. Meanwhile, Hyderabad have slipped into a precarious position and face a must-win scenario. Last year’s runners-up, known for their explosive brand of cricket, have faltered badly — managing just three wins from nine matches and dropping to ninth place on the points table. Another defeat would all but knock them out of Playoff contention. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. IPL 2025 | "I know how hungry he is for success": Ponting on Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting has praised skipper Shreyas Iyer for his match-winning knock against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL match here on Wednesday. Punjab picked up a crucial win over CSK with skipper Shreyas Iyer leading the 191-run chase. After electing to bowl, CSK rode on Sam Curran’s 47-ball 88 to post a mammoth total of 190 on a slow, turning track. Captain’s knock Iyer then played a captain’s knock, scoring 72 runs in 41 balls to set up the win for his side. Aided by opener Prabhsimran Singh, who also scored 54 runs, Punjab finished off the chase with two balls to spare to win the match by four wickets. Also Read: IPL 2025: Five potential reasons for Chennai Super Kings' early exit Ricky Ponting Ponting explained how the Indian cricketer has grown as a captain over the years. “Shreyas started this tournament in a form that I’ve never seen him in before. Today’s [Wednesday] innings is one of the reasons that I was so keen to get him here as our captain. I know how good a player he is. I know how good a leader he is. And I know how hungry he is for success. And I think he proved that to everybody tonight. It was never going to be an easy run chase. It was a great run chase from us,” the former Aussie international said. Further praising Iyer as a captain, Ponting explained how his influence inspires the rest of the dressing room. “If you look at him now, you just look at him in the eye, you can tell that he is really hungry for success. He has just got that look in his eye where he knows he is the leader of this team. He wants to bring success to this team and this franchise and the way that he is playing, does not look like he is going to let anything get in the way of that. That is a great attitude for a leader to have, because that rubs off on everybody else around him,” he said. Meanwhile, Iyer has been hit with a fine after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate against CSK.  Shreyas fined Rs 12 lakh lyer was fined R12 lakh as this was Punjab’s first over-rate offence in IPL 2025 under the tournament’s code of conduct. IPL 2025: Five potential reasons for Chennai Super Kings' early exit

1 Failed to purchase match-winners at mega auction. Big money spent on names like Matheesha Pathirana (Rs 13 Cr), R Ashwin (Rs 9.75 Cr), Devon Conway (Rs 6.25 Cr) but they did not deliver. 2 Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury led to over-reliance on MS Dhoni (just 151 in 10 matches), who is a pale shadow of his previous match-winning self. No young replacement for ageing wicketkeeper-batter Dhoni, 43, too. 5 Poor show from openers despite changing combinations. Different openers tried: Rahul Tripathi (55 runs in 5 matches), (Rachin Ravindra 191 runs in 8 matches), Devon Conway (94 runs in 3 matches), Shaik Rasheed (57 runs in 4 matches), Ayush Mhatre (69 runs in 3 matches.
