Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane was left stunned by India skipper Rohit Sharma’s sudden retirement from Test cricket.
“I didn’t know; I’m actually shocked,” Rahane, Rohit’s Mumbai Ranji teammate, said during the post-match press conference after KKR’s two-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

“He has done fantastically well in the Test format. I just want to wish him the very best [for] whatever his plans are,” Rahane said, adding, “He has done really well, improved his game as a Test batter. He started his career at No. 5-6 and then opened the innings. The way he adapted to that opening slot was amazing.
He always wanted to take on the bowlers and play with freedom.”
