US President Donald Trump is pushing for the reopening America’s most infamous prison - the Alcatraz prison. Trump has directed the Bureau of Prisons to rebuild and reopen the infamous prison in the San Francisco Bay to "house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders." "REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ!" he posted on the Truth Social platform. The federal prison at Alcatraz housed notorious U.S. criminals such as Al Capone before it closed in 1963. It is now one of San Francisco`s most popular tourist destinations. Before turning into a tourist destination, Alcatraz was infamous for being one of America’s most feared prisons, known for its harsh conditions, strict discipline. Operating from 1934 to 1963 on a remote island in San Francisco Bay, it was believed to be escape-proof due to the cold, treacherous waters surrounding it. The mysterious 1962 escape attempt added to its legend. Alcatraz came to symbolise punishment over rehabilitation and has since become iconic through films and pop culture, cementing its dark reputation in history.
