Leaders of 27 nations joined Russian President Vladimir Putin in celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Addressing the Victory Day parade at the Red Square, in Moscow, Putin said the defeat of Nazi Germany was accomplished through the collective efforts of Allied Nations, and the opening of the second front by the Normandy landing of the Allied forces.

Other leaders includeded Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
This year’s military parade involved over 11,000 troops, including 1500 combatants of the special military operation and 183 WWII and advanced weapons systems. Contingents from 13 countries also marched at the parade.
Ukraine arrests Hungarian spies
Ukraine’s security agency SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) said on Friday it arrested two people on suspicion of spying for Hungary by gathering intelligence on Ukraine’s military in the west of the country. The two suspects, both former members of the Ukrainian military, face charges of treason. It was the first time in Ukraine’s history that a Hungarian espionage operation has been discovered.
