Days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, signs of recovery are slowly emerging. On 22 April 2025, militants ambushed a group of tourists, resulting in multiple casualties and widespread panic. A sharp decline in the tourist footfall and a temporary shutdown of local markets followed soon after. However, days after the attack, tourists cautiously began returning to the scenic town while local shopkeepers and vendors waited for their return in good numbers. The shopkeepers rely heavily on seasonal tourism for their livelihood. Markets have reopened, though business remains slow.
