In a fresh escalation along the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire on the night of April 26-27, 2025, in the areas opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur sectors, as per the Indian Army. Tensions remain high in the region, especially following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.

The Indian Army responded swiftly to the firing by Pakistan, retaliating with appropriate small arms fire. The military's response was effective, ensuring the situation did not escalate further. "On the night of 26-27 April 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in the areas opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur Sectors. Our troops responded effectively with appropriate small arms fire," the Indian Army confirmed in an official statement, as reported by ANI.

The LoC incidents come amidst heightened military activity in the Kashmir valley, where security forces have intensified anti-terror operations in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. Security forces in the region have also been cracking down on terrorist elements, leading to several arrests.

In a notable development, the Kulgam Police, in collaboration with the Indian Army and CRPF, arrested two individuals suspected to be associated with terrorist activities. The suspects, Bilal Ahmad Bhat and Mohd Ismail Bhat, both residents of Thokerpora, Qaimoh, were apprehended during a routine checkpoint at Matalhama Chowk Thokerpora, Qaimoh, in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. During their search, security forces recovered two pistols, two pistol magazines, and 25 rounds of ammunition. A case under relevant sections of law has been filed, and investigations are underway.

Additionally, the house of Zakir Ahmad Ganie, a suspect believed to be involved in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, was demolished by security forces and Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) authorities on April 25. Ganie, active since 2023, is suspected of being part of the terrorist network behind the attack that has sent shockwaves throughout India. His house was located in Mutalhama village in Kulgam district, and the demolition is part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the region.
