Nifty, Sensex start new week with gains amid FPI inflows
Indian stock markets started the fresh week on a strong note, supported by positive foreign fund inflows and the visit of US Vice President J D Vance to India. As per experts, this high-level visit is expected to play an important role in shaping a potential agreement between India and the US, boosting investor sentiment in the process. The benchmark Nifty 50 index opened at 23,949.15, marking a gain of 97.50 points or 0.41 per cent. Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex also saw a positive opening, rising by 355 points or 0.45 per cent to reach 78,908.60 points.
City in a mess: Over 500 km of Mumbai roads dug up amid BMC’s poor planning
Mumbai currently resembles a chaotic treasure hunt, with nearly every street and bylane dug up—for road concreting, utility repairs, Metro works, or forgotten infrastructure that suddenly demands attention. In some areas, roads are freshly concreted, only to be dug up again to relay missed-out amenities. Officials monitoring the works claim there’s “method in the madness,” and that small stretches are being taken up one at a time. Mumbai: ‘Bring back harsh fines for felling trees’
City-based environmentalist Stalin Dayanand has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding that the penalty for the illegal felling of trees be increased from the present amount of Rs 1000, as well as the reintroduction of a proposed amendment to the Maharashtra Felling of Trees (Regulation) Act, 1964. A bill, which sought to increase the penalty for the illegal felling of trees from Rs 1000 to Rs 50,000, was withdrawn by the state government in December last year. Read more.
