On Saturday, India accused Pakistan of violating the agreement reached earlier in the day between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries, which was intended to halt all firing and military action. India’s armed forces are retaliating and addressing border intrusions in accordance with the violations. In a special briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan’s actions amounted to a "breach" of the understanding reached earlier that day. He stressed that India takes "very serious note of these violations." “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri said. He also highlighted that India’s Armed Forces had been given clear instructions to respond forcefully to any further violations along both the International Border and the Line of Control, reported news agency ANI. "For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding reached earlier today between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This constitutes a breach of the agreement," said Misri, adding, "The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take these matters very seriously." India-Pakistan tensions: Both sides had agreed to halt military action, firing Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Misri informed the media that Pakistan’s DGMO had contacted his Indian counterpart in the afternoon. "Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called the Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours. It was agreed between them that both sides would cease all firing and military action on land, air, and sea, effective from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time," Misri said. "Instructions have been issued to implement this understanding. The DGMOs will speak again on May 12 at 1200 hours." In a post on social media platform X, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s steadfast stance against terrorism. “India and Pakistan have today reached an understanding to halt all military actions. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," Jaishankar posted. At a joint press conference earlier on Saturday, Misri had described Pakistan’s actions as "escalatory" and "provocative", asserting that India is responding to these provocations in an effective manner. India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation to a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 people. India had struck nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. In response, Pakistan escalated the situation with unprovoked artillery and drone attacks. (With ANI inputs)
10 May,2025 11:58 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentPakistan has violated the bilateral understanding reached this afternoon to immediately stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, government sources said on Saturday night. This came hours after India announced the understanding following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes that brought the two countries teetering on the edge of full scale war. The sources said firing from the Pakistani side was reported in Akhnoor sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Drones were also seen in the Pir Panjal area. The decision to stop military action by India and Pakistan was first made public by US President Donald Trump in a surprise announcement in a social media post while claiming that the talks between the two sides were "mediated" by the United States after which "India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE." Top government sources, however, clearly said that the outcome was the result of a direct engagement between the Indian and Pakistani sides and that Islamabad agreed to it with "no pre conditions, no post conditions and no links to other issues." In a short announcement after Trump's remarks, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan agreed on the understanding during a call this afternoon. "The Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan called the Director General of Military Operations of India at 1535 hours IST earlier today," Misri told the media at around 6 pm. "It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today," he said. According to the official, two suspects were seen loitering near the perimeter of the camp. Despite being warned to stop, they ignored the sentry’s command, prompting him to open fire. India-Pakistan tensions: Army sentry observes suspicious movement near camp in Jammu, opens fire The duo fled the scene, and a large-scale search operation was immediately launched to locate them and eliminate any potential threat. Security forces remain on high alert as the search continues in and around the area. These developments come just hours after India confirmed that both the countries had agreed to cease all military actions on land, air and sea. However, Central government sources said on Saturday night that Pakistan had violated the understanding within hours of its announcement, reported PTI. As flares lit up the night sky and explosions continued at intervals of around 15 minutes, Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed strong doubts over the viability of the ceasefire. “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” he wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). In another post, he added: “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Another drone was shot down at a high ground in Anantnag, also close to an army facility. India-Pakistan tensions: Drones seen in Kutch, too Additional sightings were reported from Verinag in Anantnag district, as well as from Bandipora and Safapora. Officials said further details regarding these incidents were awaited. The reported drone activity and subsequent response mark a serious strain on the ceasefire understanding announced earlier in the day, which had been intended to de-escalate tensions following weeks of heightened cross-border hostilities. In Gujarat's border district Kutch, too, several drones were spotted late on Saturday night, prompting the officials to enforce a blackout. 10 May,2025 09:23 PM IST | Ujjain | mid-day online correspondentIn a significant step toward de-escalating heightened tensions, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Saturday that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart earlier in the day, and "both sides have agreed to halt all military action—on land, at sea, and in the air". "The Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan called the Director General of Military Operations of India at 1535 hours IST earlier today. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today. Later, in a post on X, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said, "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so." The ceasefire announcement first broke after US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social and wrote that the talks between New Delhi and Islamabad were mediated by Washington. The US-brokered ceasefire came hours after militaries of India and Pakistan attacked each other's military facilities, dangerously escalating the ongoing conflict. "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," the US president announced in a post on Truth Social. "Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump added. The announcement by Trump came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistan Army chief Gen Asim Munir. Rubio also made a similar statement on X. "Over the past 48 hours, @VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik," he said. He said he was "pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site". "We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace," he added. In New Delhi, government sources said stoppage of firing and military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries. Pakistan DGMO initiated call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understanding reached, they said. In Islamabad, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire with immediate effect. "Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!" Dar said in a post on X. (With ANI and PTI inputs)
10 May,2025 09:00 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentOn Saturday, Pathankot in Punjab went into an alert mode after sounds of explosion were heard in the border district. Amid the escalating India-Pakistan tensions, local authorities ordered the closure of markets as a precautionary measure, reported PTI. Punjab shares a 532-km border with Pakistan. After a tense night, the residents of Pathankot and Jalandhar woke up to loud explosion-like sounds, while air raid sirens were heard in Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, and Ferozepur, reported PTI . The district authorities in Pathankot have set up a 24X7 control room for public assistance. Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal urged residents to immediately report any unidentified material or objects falling from the sky. “It has been observed that some people collect such items, which can be dangerous,” said Uppal, warning that legal action would be taken against anyone doing so. He further advised that no one should approach or touch any such objects, reported PTI. Meanwhile, in Haryana’s Sirsa, locals reported blast-like sounds after midnight. A police officer confirmed that debris from an unidentified metallic object had landed in a nearby field. “We were sleeping when we heard a loud sound. In the morning, we found a metallic object in the fields. Defence personnel later collected the debris,” a local villager said. In Jalandhar’s Kanganwal village, an unidentified projectile landed in a residential area early Saturday, injuring a migrant labourer and damaging several houses, reported PTI . “I was near a window when something struck a water tank and shattered the windows of 4-5 houses,” a woman said. The injured labourer suffered an arm injury and was hospitalized imdeiatly. Local residents, including Satinder Kumar, Muskan, and Surjit Kaur, shared that explosions shook homes, damaging water tanks, windows, and a car. “A red light flashed in the sky, followed by a loud explosion,” Surjit said. Akshita Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Phagwara, issued an advisory for closure of all markets, except medical stores. Malls and high-rise buildings in the district were also closed. In Kapurthala, commercial establishments also shut down. Debris from unidentified objects was found in Beas, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, and other areas. In Phagwara district, a crater 7-8 feet deep and 12-14 feet wide formed when an object fell between Khalyan and Sahni villages. A similar crater appeared in Gurdaspur’s Chhichhrana village. Tensions soared after the Indian Armed Forces launched precision strikes on militant camps in Pakistan and PoK following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which had cross-border links. In response, Pakistan launched 26 drone attacks from J&K to Gujarat on Friday night. Security forces thwarted multiple drone threats in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Amritsar. In Ferozepur, a projectile destroyed by Indian air defences landed on a house in Khai Pheme Ke village, injuring three family members and setting a car and home on fire, reported PTI . 10 May,2025 05:26 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentIndian Armed Forces launched a strike on May 7, targeting nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor. The Operation Sindoor resulted in the elimination of key terror operatives, including Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, the brother-in-law of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, according to sources. According to sources, Yusuf Azhar, a key member of the proscribed terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), was responsible for handling weapons training for JeM operatives and was involved in multiple terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir. Azhar was also involved in the conspiracy to hijack Indian Airlines aircraft IC-814 from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Delhi. A Red Corner notice number A-565/6-2000 was issued against him. Judea Pearl, father of Jewish-American Journalist Daniel Pearl, who was beheaded on camera in 2002 by terrorists, clarified reports of Azhar's death and his connection to his son's murder. "I want to thank all of you who reached out to me today in response to the news that India's military forces have eliminated Abdul Rauf Azhar, a man described as 'responsible for the kidnapping and murder of my son, Daniel.' I want to clarify: Azhar was a Pakistani extremist and leader of the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed. While his group was not directly involved in the plot to abduct Danny, it was indirectly responsible. Azhar orchestrated the hijacking that led to the release of Omar Sheikh, the man who lured Danny into captivity. Sheikh was later sentenced to death but ultimately released from prison and kept in a "Government Safe House," Pearl said in a post on X. Former Journalist and colleague of Daniel Pearl at US-based Wall Street Journal, Asra Nomani, hailed India's recent Operation Sindoor in Bahawalpur, which she revealed the place used by Pakistan for its "home-grown terrorists". In a post on X, Nomani said that when India started its action against Pakistan, she had only one city's name that was Bahawalpur. "I still have chills in my heart from when I first heard that town's name in late January 2002. For the 23 years since, I have reported on how Pakistani intelligence and military leaders have used that city, Bahawalpur, in the southern province of Punjab as a base for its homegrown domestic terrorists. When I heard India bombed training camps in Pakistan this week in Operation Sindoor, in response to a Pakistani terrorist rampage in India's Kashmir state, I had one city's name on my lips: Bahawalpur," Nomani said. "My friend, WSJ reporter Danny Pearl, went to Bahawalpur in December 2001 with a notebook and a pen. Gen. Pervez Musharraf had just promised he was shutting down Pakistan's militant groups after a strike by Pakistan's terrorists against the Parliament in India, and Danny reported on the militant offices in Bahawalpur. He literally knocked on their doors," Nomani recalled. Asra Nomani further mentioned that the militant training camps were open for business in Bahawalpur. "On January 23, 2002, Danny left a home I had rented in Karachi, Pakistan, for an interview. I learned that Danny's fixer, Asif Farooqi, had arranged an interview for Danny through a man named "Arif." Danny didn't know it, but Arif was the PR man for a militant group, Harkutul Mujahadeen. What was Arif's hometown? Bahawalpur. The police launched a manhunt to find Arif in Bahawalpur. We learned Arif's family faked a funeral for Arif. Police found him trying to board a bus in Muzaffarabad, across the country from Pakistan's border with Kashmir. It is another town, India said it bombed terrorist training facilities," the Journalist said. Asra Nomani recalled that Daniel was handed off to Omar Sheikh, a British-Pakistani dropout from the London School of Economics, radicalised in the 1990s in London mosques. "Omar Sheikh was freed with Pakistani terrorist leader Masood Azhar, whose family was allegedly killed this week by India's air strike in Bahawalpur. Did Pakistan jail Omar Sheikh and Masood Azhar when they returned to Pakistan with a third terrorist, freed from India's jails? No. Pakistan's military and intelligence gave them safe passage. They used them as weapons against India. But these domestic terrorists have waged war against innocents in Pakistan, like civil society activists, Benazir Bhutto, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, schoolchildren and countless others," Nomani said. "Their extremism has ruined Pakistan, and Pakistanis can't blame America for creating the mujahideen to fight the Soviets in the 1980s," she asserted. Hailing Operation Sindoor further, Asra said that India is doing a strategic attack on terrorist bases, which Pakistan itself should have eliminated. "Pakistan has had a duty to dismantle those terrorist bases, for even the safety of its people. What India is doing is a strategic attack on terrorist bases, Pakistani military and intelligence should have eliminated but never did in their obsession to take over Kashmir," she said. Bahawalpur is home to the Markaz Subhan Allah, a key Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) facility that has been active since 2015. Serving as the group's primary hub for training, indoctrination, and operations, it also functions as JeM's operational headquarters. The centre has been linked to multiple terror plots, including the February 14, 2019, Pulwama attack. It houses the residences of JeM founder Maulana Masood Azhar, de facto leader Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Maulana Ammar, and other members of Azhar's family. 10 May,2025 05:16 PM IST | New Delhi | ANIIn a significant decision to boost security across Indian airports, the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued an official memorandum on Friday, temporarily extending the role of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the Aviation Security Group (ASG) to provide additional security cover to Cargo operations and the In-line Hold Baggage Screening System (ILHBSS). The arrangement came into effect on Friday and will remain in place till May 18. The decision was taken amid the escalating India-Pakistan tensions following India’s retaliatory response after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The enhancement of CISF's mandate is essential to reinforce security arrangements at all civil airports, a press release by the CISF stated. As part of the new mandate, CISF personnel have resumed supervision of cargo and baggage screening operations, as well as assumed authority over access control at these sensitive areas. The force has also been empowered to conduct random checks to bolster aviation security further. “All the airports under cover of CISF have already implemented the new strengthened system,” the official statement read. Until now, CISF’s responsibilities did not explicitly include direct involvement in the security of cargo and ILHBSS operations. This decision introduces an essential secondary layer of security checks aimed at safeguarding civil aviation amid a heightened threat environment amid the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions. PIB debunks fake claim of Delhi-Mumbai flight route closure amid border tensions The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has refuted claims that the Delhi-Mumbai airline route is temporarily closed, according to a report by news agency ANI. The PIB, in a social media post, labelled the claim as “fake” and clarified that the Delhi-Mumbai airline route remains operational. It further noted that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has extended the temporary closure of 25 Air Traffic Service (ATS) route segments within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions owing to operational reasons. “It is being claimed that there is a temporary closure of services on the Delhi-Mumbai airline route. This claim is fake,” the PIB stated. “The Airports Authority of India has extended the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi & Mumbai Flight Information Regions due to operational reasons,” the post added, according to ANI. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence reported that drones have been sighted at 26 locations along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). These include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, and Jammu in Jammu-Kashmir; Ferozepur, Pathankot, and Fazilka in Punjab; Lalgarh Jattan, Jaisalmer and Barmer in Rajasthan, and Bhuj and Kuar Bet in Gujarat, reported ANI. In Ferozepur, an armed drone targeted a civilian area, resulting in injuries to a local family. The injured individuals have received medical attention, and the area has been sanitised by security personnel. In response, the Indian Armed Forces have heightened their alert level, actively tracking and engaging aerial threats using counter-drone systems. The Defence Ministry emphasised that while there is no immediate cause for panic, citizens, especially those in border areas, should stay indoors, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow all safety advisories issued by local authorities. 10 May,2025 04:42 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentAmid the military conflict between India and Pakistan, a suspicious metal object resembling parts of a missile was found at Behad village near the Chintpurni temple in Una district, officials said on Saturday. Two other suspicious objects resembling remains of a drone and a missile were also found at two places in the Indora area of Nurpur in Kangra district, they said. While the suspected remains of a drone shot down by the Indian Army was found at Damtal village near Pathankot, debris resembling missile parts were recovered from Jota village, police confirmed. Behad, located around 10 km from the famous Chintpurni temple, reverberated with the sound of an explosion at 1.30 am on Saturday amid a complete blackout in the region, the officials said. The village is adjacent to Punjab, which shares a 532-km border with Pakistan. There was no report of any loss of life or damage to property. India-Pakistan tensions: Police have cordoned off the area According to the officials, the locals spotted the object on Saturday morning and informed the police. Confirming the development, the district administration said in a statement that while a preliminary investigation suggested that the object was inactive, a team of experts was examining it. Pakistan tried to launch attacks in the northern region on Friday night and it seemed that the broken part of a defused rocket fell at Behad village, the officials said. Police have cordoned off the area and told the residents to remain alert and not go near such objects, if found, as they could cause damage. People in Hamirpur also spent a sleepless night after sounds of Army aircraft pierced through the area around 2 am on Saturday, with many residents turning off lights at their homes, the officials said. Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh has directed all the departments to remain alert and be prepared for any emergency. He also urged people to avoid spreading misinformation on social media and be aware of AI-generated fake news and videos amid the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.
