HSC result declines by 1.49 per cent this year, girls continue to shine in board exams

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Monday declared the results for the Class 12 examinations conducted in February–March 2025. The overall pass percentage declined by 1.49% compared to last year.

The overall pass percentage for 2025 was 91.88%.


In 2024, the pass percentage was 93.37%.


Girls continued to shine in the 2025 examination, as in previous years, across almost all divisions.

A total of 14,27,905 students from all divisions-- Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur, and Konkan-- registered under the regular category. Of these, 14,19,969 students appeared, and 13,29,684 passed, leading to a pass percentage of 93.37%. Among repeater students, 1,99,123 registered, 1,91,089 appeared, and 1,22,712 passed, resulting in a 64.23% pass rate. The Konkan division recorded the highest pass percentage at 96.47%, while Latur had the lowest at 92.48%.

Among 7,01,324 boys who appeared, 6,53,247 passed. Out of 6,26,672 girls, 6,10,934 passed. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 97.48%, outperforming boys, who registered a 93.15% pass rate — a gap of 4.33%. Specially abled students received grace marks as per government provisions. Thirty-one subjects achieved a 100% pass percentage.

In stream-wise performance, the Science stream recorded a 96.85% pass rate in 2025, up from 96.09% in 2023 and 2024. Commerce improved to 92.18% from 89.79%, while Arts rose to 85.88% from 84.05%. The MCVC stream registered an 87.69% pass rate. Overall, the pass percentage rose to 93.37%, marking an increase of 2.12% over the previous year.

According to board officials, data revealed that girls shone across all nine divisions.

Speaking at the press conference, Sharad Gosavi, President of the State Board, said, “Stringent action against copying cases may be one of the reasons for the decline in the result percentage. The board has taken vigilant steps against cheating. A similar declining trend in the pass percentage was also reported during 2022–23.”

The HSC board result shows Mumbai and Konkan lead, while Latur has declined.

Among the nine divisions, Konkan emerged as the top performer, registering the highest overall pass percentage of 96.74%, followed closely by Mumbai at 92.93%. On the other hand, Latur recorded the lowest overall pass rate at 89.46%, marking a noticeable decline compared to other regions.

Pass percentage: Boys - 90.36%, Girls - 94.80%, Overall - 92.24%

4. Mumbai Division

Total students: 160,969 boys, 153,175 girls, 314,144 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 91.60%, Girls - 94.33%, Overall - 92.93%

5. Kolhapur Division

Total students: 59,726 boys, 53,469 girls, 113,195 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 90.71%, Girls - 96.92%, Overall - 93.64%

6. Amravati Division

Total students: 145,257 boys, 78,069 girls, 67,188 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 88.97%, Girls - 94.29%, Overall - 91.43%

7. Nashik Division

Total students: 157,842 boys, 85,208 girls, 72,634 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 89.44%, Girls - 93.51%, Overall - 91.31%

8. Latur Division

Total students: 49,234 boys, 41,043 girls, 90,277 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 85.99%, Girls - 93.63%, Overall - 89.46%

9. Kokan Division

Total students: 23,563 boys, 11,956 girls, 11,607 overall
Pass percentage: Boys - 95.50%, Girls - 98.03%, Overall - 96.74%

Overall Results- 

Total students: 756,226 boys, 661,743 girls, 1,417,969 overall

Pass percentage: Boys - 89.51%, Girls - 94.58%, Overall - 91.88%

Science Stream: Outstanding Results

The Science stream recorded a remarkable pass percentage of 97.35% across the state. A total of 137,538 students appeared, out of which 133,434 passed.

Top performing divisions in Science-

Konkan: 92.21%

Kolhapur: 89.69%

Mumbai: 84.63%

Amravati: 82.88%

Sambhajinagar: 82.16%

Lowest Science pass percentage was observed in:

Latur: 77.98%

Pune: 74.24%

Commerce Stream:

Strong Performance with regional Gaps. The Commerce stream also fared well with pass percentages exceeding 90% in several divisions.

Top performers in Commerce-

Konkan: 93.13%

Kolhapur: 92.40%

Pune: 92.32%

Sambhajinagar: 91.60%

Mumbai: 91.34%

Lower performance was seen in the following districts of Maharashtra

Latur: 75.63%

Amravati: 75.88%

ITI Stream: Encouraging Outcome

In the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) stream, Pune Division reported a pass percentage of 81.44%, with 316 out of 388 students clearing the exam. Other divisions also registered promising results.

These results demonstrate Maharashtra students' strong academic resilience and the increasing parity between streams, although regional disparities persist. While Konkan and Mumbai divisions continue to lead with excellence, the Latur division’s lower pass percentages in both Science and Commerce warrant focused academic intervention, added the officials.
