The makers of the Punjabi film 'Jombieland' have unveiled actress Angira Dhar’s bold new look as Aanchal Hooda, marking her much-anticipated debut in Punjabi cinema. Best known for her roles in 'Saas Bahu and Flamingo', 'Commando 3', and 'Runway 34', Angira steps into uncharted territory with Jombieland — Punjab’s first-ever Zom-Com (Zombie Comedy) film.

Directed and written by Thaparr, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Binnu Dhillon, Kanika Maan, Jassa Dhillon, Dhanveer Singh, and Guri.

Opening up about her experience, Angira shares, “Luckily for me, having done a few action films and shows, getting into the role of Aanchal Hooda, who also fights zombies, came somewhat naturally. However, my preparation for the film wasn’t entirely straightforward. I joined the project later than most of the cast, so the team had to quickly bring me up to speed on everything. They were incredibly helpful and well-prepared, making it easy for them to communicate the film’s vision and process to me. Their support made the experience feel almost second nature, and each day on set was an opportunity to learn something new."

She adds, “My preparation didn’t just stop before the shoot began; it continued throughout the entire process. I believe that’s how one truly gets under the skin of a character—by constantly discovering new aspects, just as you learn more about yourself every day."

'Fun and unique'

Reflecting on her Punjabi debut, Angira says, “This was my first ever Punjabi film, and being part of the first Punjabi Zom-Com as a genre made it even more exciting. As soon as I found out it was a Zom-Com, I was immediately drawn to the concept. It was so fun and unique, and the story itself was incredibly entertaining—I simply couldn’t resist being a part of it. So yes, I’m genuinely excited about this film and thrilled to be part of something so different."

Produced by Neeraj Ruhil and Subhav Sharma under the banner of Next Level Productions, Jombieland is slated for a theatrical release on 13th June. Jombieland is also set to release in five languages—Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam—marking the first part of an ambitious trilogy.
