"I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us," Miley wrote, adding, "She's my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn't know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me -- simple, coincidental, and uninteresting," reported People. Miley later opened up about her relationship with her father, acknowledging that they "have had our challenges over the years." "Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else," the Something Beautiful artist concluded her message. "I'm at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family." Earlier this year, after Billy Ray's controversial inauguration performance, the Cyrus family made headlines when Trace Cyrus shared an open letter of concern addressed to their dad, reported People. A family source later shared that Miley, her parents, and her siblings wanted to put tension in the past, explaining, "They got through the drama of 2024, and it's a new year." "They don't want to be this Cyrus family feud. This is not enjoyable for them," the insider added. During that time, Miley said that her father provided her with "a map of what to do and what not to do, and he's guided me on both." She added that she "also inherited the narcissism from my father," as per the outlet. "Without my dad, I know -- I mean, not just literally I wouldn't be sitting in this chair, I wouldn't exist -- but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn't exist. Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we're very similar in our ideas," she said. "So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I've inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised -- which really, my mom raised me," reported People. "Honestly, my mom is my hero," Miley added of Tish. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 11 May,2025 06:08 PM IST | Mumbai | ANITaylor Swift's team has responded to reports that she was subpoenaed in the ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. According to E! News, Swift's representatives claim that the singer had minimal involvement in the film 'It Ends With Us,' only permitting the use of her song 'My Tears Ricochet' for the soundtrack. Swift's team released a statement denying any significant involvement in the film's production. "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie," the statement read, adding, "She was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film," as quoted by E! News. The statement also noted that Swift did not see the film until weeks after its public release due to her busy tour schedule. Swift's team accused Baldoni's team of using her name to draw public interest. "Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift's name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case," the statement read, as per E! News. The legal battle between Lively and Baldoni stems from allegations of sexual harassment made by Lively against her co-star and director Baldoni. Baldoni has denied the allegations and countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of defamation and civil extortion. A trial has been set for March 2026. 11 May,2025 08:46 AM IST | Los Angeles | ANICast: Alban Lenoir, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Stéfi CelmaDirector: Guillaume PierretRating: 2.5/5Runtime: 111 m Guillaume Pierret’s action saga ‘Last Bullet’ is supposedly the third and final chapter of the Balle Perdue franchise. The first two installments were well received so there was some positive anticipation going in for this sequel. The recap establishes that ex-con/super mechanic Lino (Alban Lenoir) has been hellbent on avenging the death of Charas. Charas, was apparently gunned down in the first intallment ‘Lost Bullet.’ The man who pulled the trigger, Areski/Joris (Nicolas Duvauchelle) has been able to evade the authorities for two whole movies and ‘Last Bullet’ basically picks up on the revenge theme, two years after the events of ‘Lost Bullet 2.’ Areski, though slippery as an eel, is still under the thumb of the crooked Commander Resz (Gérard Lanvin). Resz is looking to tie up loose ends that could hamper his promotion to Narcotics Commander so Areski is on a slippery wicket. At the start of the film Areski is shown as managing to outsmart Resz’ hit squad…but can he hold out long? Alban Lenoir comes back to reprise the lead role as Lino, even though in ‘Lost Bullet 2’ there were broad hints that he may have perished. The story is that Spanish authorities had Lino in custody, and he is now being handed over to French authorities headed by Commander Resz. Surprisingly, once in France, Resz releases Lino and he is able to reunite with his former teammate, Julia (Stéfi Celma). Lino has plans to move to Barcelona and work at a garage there. Julia’s mechanic friend Sarah(Julie Tedesco), who has Charas’ Renault 21,may be the means for Lino who wants to fix up the R21 and drive that to his new life in Barcelona. But Lino is not the only one enquiring about the R21. ‘Lost Bullet’ may be illogical, with uninteresting characters and a plot that drags on unnecessarily but the action sequences are first rate. They are crisp, violent, smoothly orchestrated and that makes the film fairly entertaining for most of the runtime. Lino has an action-packed showdown replete with several twists, betrayals and chases. Hand-to-hand combat, Cars flying off, going boom, blowing up and crashing into each other - are fun to watch. Guillaume Pierret eye for action choreography is unblemished. The first action set piece with bikes, cars and trucks and a body crashing out of a truck’s windshield, gets you excited. Editor Sophie Fourdrinoy’s quick cuts charge up the experience. Pierret entertains but fails to elevate the proceedings creatively. It’s not something we havn’t seen before. Alban Lenoir, in an entirely physical combative role continues to be the typical action hero -a brooding protagonist with a demeanour to match. Since ‘Last Bullet’ is the last of the franchise it manages to tie up all the loose ends before engaging us in an all out action set-piece finale.
10 May,2025 08:05 PM IST | Mumbai | Johnson ThomasCast: Celeste Dalla Porta, Stefania Sandrelli, Gary Oldman, Silvio Orlando, Daniele Rienzo, Dario Aita, Isabella Ferrari, Luisa Ranieri, Peppe Lanzetta, Marlon Joubert, Silvia Degrandi, Lorenzo Gleijeses, Biagio Izzo, Nello Mascia, Alfonso SantagataDirector-screenwriter: Paolo SorrentinoRating: 3/5Runtime: 136 m The Oscar-winning Italian director Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘Parthenope’, is an epic tale that captures the essence of the city of Naples, throughout the latter half of the 20th century, through the life of one woman. The titular character, Parthenope (Celeste Dalla Porta), from her birth in the sea through a life marked by love, loss, guilt, and redemption, serves as a source of Naples’ mythological identity. The decades spanning narrative chronicles her birth, her youth and the years she spends adrift as a young adult. Celeste Dalla Porta is beguiling as a woman of stunning beauty that people stop and stare at. She is named after one of the six sirens of Greek mythology. Her beauty is the kind that will open doors and start wars. She is presented here as a carefree seductress who revels in her youth. She also pursues an academic career in anthropology under the tutelage of professor Devoto Marotta (Silvio Orlando). She also encounters her favorite author, the melancholic alcoholic John Cheever (Gary Oldman), who waxes prophetic about her beauty. She forges strange connections and has stray encounters with people who touch her life. She is introduced to Flora Malva (Isabella Ferrari), an acting teacher and connects with Greta Cool (Luisa Ranieri), a Neapolitan diva and movie sex symbol. Parthenope also witnesses a public ritual - an alliance between two gangs. Parthenope attracts a host of youthful or wealthy suitors. Her brother Raimondo (Daniele Rienzo) harbors a possibly mutual incestuous desire towards her. Her hedonistic lifestyle leads her into a brief affair with her brother’s friend Sandrino (Dario Aita), which culminates in Raimondo’s premature death. Sorrentino’s film is visually opulent but also aesthetically excessive. His attempt at weaving a modern epic of womanhood is undermined by obsession with form. Daria D'Antonio, the director of photography creates opulent scenes with mild surrealistic overtones. But the form is so overwhelming that the substance gets shrouded in mystery. It’s difficult to make sense of what this film is trying to convey. ‘Parthenope’ is an inscrutable enigma, embodies the city of Naples while fantasizing about dreamlike scenarios and celebrating womanhood. It is Sorrentino’s ode to his hometown and makes for a opulent spectacle.
10 May,2025 07:54 PM IST | Mumbai | Johnson ThomasCast: Vince Vaughn, Lorraine Bracco, Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Linda Cardellini, Joe Manganiello, Drea de Matteo, Michael Rispoli, Campbell ScottDirector: Stephen ChboskyRating: 3/5Runtime: 111 m ‘Nonnas’ is based on a true story, that of Jody “Joe” Scaravella, who grew up in Brooklyn and opened a restaurant ‘Enoteca Maria’ in Staten Island with legitimate Italian grandmothers as chefs. These grandmothers brought their family recipes to the kitchen and served them to customers re-creating a unique and authentic experience. The man at the center of Nonnas, Nick (Vince Vaughn) who recently lost his beloved mother, decides to put all the money he has, and some borrowed as well, into a business venture that tries to replicate the experience of a rewarding family meal. The idea takes shape when friends and family offer him condolences and food to help him through the mourning process. Nick, in an effort to keep his fond memories of his mother alive, tries to replicate the food his grandmother and mother used to cook. The idea of the restaurant comes from that experiment. Nick enlists his best friend Bruno (Joe Manganiello) to renovate the place as a favor, and hires Italian grandmothers willing to work and share their family traditions with the public. He also convinces his mother's best friend Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), former nun Teresa (Talia Shire), local hairdresser Gia (Susan Sarandon), and Antonella (Brenda Vaccaro) to join the cooking staff. This is a sincere attempt at feel-good family fare. The way the story is told we want this plan to work out—for the sake of Joe, his friends, and the nonnas in the kitchen, who have goals of their own to accomplish. Director Stephen Chbosky’s film with Liz Maccie's screenplay, is relatable because it chases a dream of recreating family get-togethers in a commercial space. It’s a tough ask for someone who hasn’t been in the business but odds even out eventually and Joe’s dream becomes a success. Chbosky allows the emotion to seep in organically. The narrative is also layered with food presented with rich sensory detail. The Staten Island setting is authentic and helps lend the filmed experience a validity that draws you in and holds you entranced. Nonna’s is about taking forward a legacy and tradition that carries memories that we cherish. The screenplay focuses on characters, their relationships, and conflicts. The film is warm-hearted and engaging and the characters are rooted in nostalgia. Vince Vaughn’s performance is nuanced with grief. Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, and Talia Shire bring legacy, warmth, and honesty to every scene. They help make the experience entertaining and deeply affecting.
10 May,2025 07:09 PM IST | Mumbai | Johnson ThomasCast: Claire Rock Smith, Sophie Fergi, Corinne Joy, Heather Nichole, Sawyer Sharbino, Johna Ramirez, Patience Rock Smith, Ashley Rock Smith, Amber Cain, Angela Sharbino, Brandon Stewart, Chris McCartyCreator: Kief DavidsonDirectors: Kief Davidson and Jenna RosherRating: 3.5/5Runtime: 52 m This documentary takes us into YouTube star Piper Rockelle’s world, tells us about her relationship with her manager-mother, and reveals the untold stories of past collaborators who were part of her content-creating team. Piper Rockelle’s financial success can be understood by the fact that at the peak of her career while she was still an underage teen, she was making $500,000 a month from her social media videos, sponsorships and other business deals. The three-episode documentary series based on The Avatist magazine article “Crushed” features a group of people discussing the controversy over social media influencer Piper Rockelle, her mother/manager Tiffany Smith and Smith’s boyfriend Hunter Hill and their involvement in exploiting children while making social media videos. Smith and Hill have been accused of overworking the kids, sexual abuse and other inappropriate actions with children. A high-profile lawsuit was even filed but was eventually settled out of court. The documentary focuses on the three main players including Hunter Hill who is also the director/cinematographer/editor of the reality TV-styled “hangout” videos that have generated millions of dollars in revenue for this trio. The documentary draws us into Piper’s quest for fame pivoted by an over ambitious mother who couldn’t stomach second place. Piper began competing in child beauty pageants at the age of 3 and quickly amassed several trophies from these pageants. The documentary includes archival videos and photos of Piper in these pageants, dressed like an adult when she was just a kid. The documentary hints at accusations against Smith for being toxic to Rockelle and others, collectively called The Squad. There are accusations that Smith pressured the kids to have fake romances and sexualized them. It is also alleged that the Squad members were not paid to be in Piper’s videos because they were told that the exposure of being in the videos was enough of a reward. Since content creation is an unregulated area and social media videos were initially made for fun it becomes a point for discussion once profits are accumulated and fun now gets considered as work that needs paid compensation and labor law protection. The documentary mentions that children(mostly aged between 11 and 15) worked with Rockelle, Smith, and Hill on these social media videos for more than 12 hours a day, without any supervision from the parents. The documentary also does not shed light on sponsors who funded and profited from the work of these children. Since Rockelle, Smith and Hill declined to give interviews for the documentary and Smith publicly denied the abuse and exploitation allegations against her, the directors had to take the long route to discuss exploitation and its effects on the child. In addition to interviewing people who have complaints about Smith and Hill, the documentary also interviews journalists, attorneys and Internet experts. That also included former work colleagues and some of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The fact that Smith continues to prosper as the manager of a social media star, is never addressed. It is also alleged that during and after this quest for fame Piper was not getting a school education. This documentary therefore draws attention to the moral dilemmas that crop up when childhood becomes commercialized. The pressure to capture viewers’ attention at the risk of exploitation exposes ethical issues that are highly problematic and can cause mental health problems. This eye opening documentary series may serve as an effective warning about child exploitation and abuse in social media but doesn’t make parents and profit making organisations accountable for mistreatment of kids.
