14 May,2025 11:33 AM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentThe 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off this Tuesday, and we already had a dress mishap, courtesy of the new dress code rule disallowing nudity and extravagantly large outfits on the red carpet. For her Cannes 2025 appearance, one of the jury members, Halle Berry, had entrusted Gaurav Gupta with designing an amazing outfit for her. The Indian designer followed the memo, but Berry had to ditch the ensemble at the last minute due to the new rule in place. Halle Berry’s last-minute outfit change New regulations banning nudity on the red carpet, as well as long dress trains, forced Berry to leave behind her stunning gown specially crafted for the occasion, as the train was too big. Talking about the last-minute wardrobe change, the Oscar winner told reporters, "I had an amazing dress to wear tonight by Gupta, and I cannot wear it because the train is too big." She further added, "Of course, I'm going to follow the rules." Celebs broke the rules on the red carpet While the jury member decided to make last-minute changes to her outfit to abide by the rules, many visibly didn’t care. German model Heidi Klum appeared at the opening ceremony in a striking pink gown featuring a long train at least three metres (10 feet) long. Chinese actress and influencer Wan Qianhui also turned up in a grand white gown with a sweeping train. 13 May,2025 10:23 PM IST | Los Angeles | ANIOscar winner Kevin Spacey has joined the cast of the upcoming conspiracy action-thriller 'The Awakening,' reported Variety. The movie is directed by Matt Routledge. Announced last year, the film stars Peter Stormare, Alice Eve, Steve Berkoff, Julian Glover, Matt Hookings and former World's Strongest Man Eddie Hall. The movie will be launched by Pia Patatian's Cloud9 worldwide at Cannes 2025. According to Variety, the film follows Jason (Tinto) and Rebecca (Eve) as they uncover a conspiracy to control the world. Their investigation leads them into a maze of secrets, making their quest to expose the truth a thrilling race against time. The film is being produced by Camelot Films, which also financed the movie alongside Tinto. The movie is currently in the post-production stage. The screenplay of the film is co-written by Tinto, Routledge and Matt Hookings, reported Variety. This upcoming movie appears to be another rebound for the actor after he was acquitted of sexual charges in 2023, reported Variety. Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has been found not guilty of all charges following a four-week trial in London on allegations of sexual assault, as per CNN. The jury at Southwark Crown Court found the 64-year-old Hollywood star not guilty of two counts of other serious sexual offences and seven counts of sexual assault. He was in tears when the verdict was announced. The allegations concerned Spacey's tenure as artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in the British capital from 2004 to 2013. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. After deliberation over three days, Spacey was found not guilty. Since he was acquitted of all nine sexual offence charges in a U.K. criminal trial in 2023, Spacey has added a few -- mostly European -- credits to his name, including 'Control' and 'Peter Five Eight', reported Variety. 13 May,2025 10:22 PM IST | Washington | ANIHollywood actress Scarlett Johansson had certain plans for her character in 'Jurassic World Rebirth'. The actress wanted it to be "a little bit sparkly". The 40-year-old star leads the cast of the new movie in the dinosaur franchise and was keen for her covert operations expert Zora Bennett to possess the sense of "warmth" that she has seen in others in similar fields, reports ‘Female First UK’. Scarlett told ‘Empire’ magazine "I've met with many members of the armed forces and worked with the USO (United Services Organizations), and the people I've met who are at the highest level of security clearance all really share a certain kind of sense of humour, a warmth. So I wanted Zora to have that”. As per ‘Female First UK’, the 'Black Widow' star explained that her alter ego is world-weary before the events of 'Jurassic World Rebirth', which is released in cinemas in July and centres on a crack team's attempts to create a life-saving drug. Scarlett said, "I like to think of her as an operator. She's ex-military, who works for independent contractors. She's hired to do extractions. She's kind of burnt out when we find her. So when this opportunity comes along, it's very hard to pass up, because it means a chance for her to have a shot at another kind of life”. Theactress has long been a fan of the sci-fi action series and explained that a meeting with original 'Jurassic Park' director Steven Spielberg convinced her that she was the right person to take centre stage in a new era for the franchise. She recalled, "It was a very long, wonderful meeting that we had to begrudgingly leave because we both have families. He really confirmed my huge fandom for the franchise and the opportunity (this film provided) for newness”. Scarlett enjoyed collaborating with screenwriter David Koepp and filmmaker Gareth Edwards as she sought to make her character "complex" in the flick – which also features Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey. 13 May,2025 08:55 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentFresh off the global success of Netflix's Black Warrant, Indian actor Rahul Bhat is set to make his third appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, this time with his Hollywood debut titled 'Lost & Found in Kumbh'. The film will be showcased at the Cannes Film Market. Rahul Bhat returns to Cannes Film Festival 2025 Bhat’s previous appearances at the festival were for Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly (Directors’ Fortnight, 2013) and Kennedy (Midnight Screening, 2023). With Lost & Found in Kumbh, he steps into a new genre and language, taking on a dramedy in English—quite a shift from the intense roles he’s known for. Lost & Found in Kumbh is a heartfelt dramedy directed by debutant Mayur Puri and produced by Los Angeles-based Mulberry Films. The story follows a London-based philosophy professor who visits India’s Kumbh Mela with his British wife and son, only to find his Indian ex-wife and their son at his family home—and his father missing. As the family searches for him, the two half-brothers get lost in the massive crowd of the sacred festival. The film was shot on location during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj—an event that occurs once every 144 years and attracts over 500 million pilgrims. Rahul Bhat on his Hollywood debut Rahul Bhat shared his thoughts on the project and the experience, “For a change, somebody offered me a dramedy. I’ve always been cast in dark, serious, violent roles. So I thought, let me try something different, something in English. We shot at the end of the Kumbh, but it was still intense—so hot, and so many people. It was tough, but also fascinating. This one’s not meant to be taken too seriously. It’s a cute, engaging film. You could call it a dramedy—or even a children’s film in some ways. As actors, we sometimes forget we’re shooting at a real place. You’re so immersed in the role, it starts to feel like just another set. But it wasn’t. It was the Kumbh. It was real. I’m finally tasting success after decades. My films have always been critically acclaimed, but this is the first time I’m hearing that word—‘hit’—and it feels great.” Unlike his previous Cannes entries, Lost & Found in Kumbh offers a lighter, more accessible story and tone. His character, Maddy, a pragmatic philosophy professor, approaches the deeply spiritual and chaotic setting of the Kumbh with analytical detachment, which fuels the film’s emotional and cultural contrasts. Bhat’s Cannes return follows the breakout success of Black Warrant, a Netflix prison drama where he plays a hardened jailer with a vulnerable side. The show became one of the platform’s most-watched global titles this year. Next up, Bhat will portray politician Sanjay Gandhi in Sudhir Mishra’s Summer of 77, set to stream on SonyLIV.

13 May,2025 01:42 PM IST | Washington | ANIAction icon Jackie Chan says Hollywood stunt work today doesn’t feel as real as it used be in his heyday as it depends heavily on computer-generated imagery (CGI).Chan, known for doing stunts on his own, said the current situation is like a “double-edged sword” where actors get the opportunity to perform impossible stunts with the help of technology but the audience knows there’s little risk involved. “In the old days, the only [choice we had] was to be there and jump; that’s it. Today, with computers, actors can do anything, but there’s always a sense of reality that you feel is missing. It’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, actors become more capable of doing impossible stunts with the help of technology, and yet, on the other hand, the concept of danger and limit gets blurred and the audience is numb [to it]. But I’m not encouraging anybody to risk their lives to do the stunts like I did; it truly is too dangerous,” the star, 71, told in a magazine interview. Chan, whose credits include action movies such as Drunken Master (1978), Police Story (1985) and Rush Hour (1998), said he will continue to perform stunts on his own as it’s a part of his identity. “Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am. That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never! And to be honest, when you’ve done it for 64 years straight, there’s no physical preparation anymore. Everything is in your heart and soul; it is muscle memory,” he added. The veteran actor will next be seen in Karate Kid: Legends. The film will see Chan reprise his role from the 2010’s The Karate Kid remake. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 13 May,2025 12:51 PM IST | Los Angeles | AgenciesOscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will be seen headlining the stylised action film 'The Surgeon'. As per Variety, the feature -- hoped to be the first in a franchise -- introduced to buyers in Cannes by Patrick Wachsberger's 193. 'The Surgeon' comes from writer/director Rohsan Sethi, who also happens to be a physician, and extends a history of successful action collaborations for Wachsberger and producer Basil Iwankyk, who previously combined on 'John Wick', which Iwankyk produced and Wachsberger distributed as chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. In the film, Yeoh will be seen essaying the role of a retired surgeon who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient. Though greatly outnumbered, her captors have overlooked her greatest weapon: 35 years of surgical experience, leading to what the synopsis describes as an "explosive and brutal confrontation" during which she outwits and cuts down her enemies "in a visual style that defies anything you have seen before." On having Michelle in the project, director Rohsan Sethi said, "I'm so excited to bring something brand new and innovative to the action genre based heavily on my medical background. I cannot think of a better partner than Michelle, the iconic queen of action who will be using her skills in a different and surprising way in this film, and the producing teams at Thunder Road, 193 and NeoText." In addition to an Academy Award, Yeoh's performance in 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' earned her a Golden Globe, Film Independent Spirit Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award in 2023.
