Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has collaborated with superstar Shah Rukh Khan on two films. Their first film together — Chennai Express — was a box office success and also starred Deepika Padukone. However, their second collaboration, Dilwale, failed to recreate the magic of Chennai Express at the box office. Dilwale was released in 2015 and reunited the iconic pair of SRK and Kajol. However, after the film failed to make a significant impact at the box office, there were rumours that not all was well between the filmmaker and the actor.

Now, Rohit Shetty has responded to those speculating about a fallout with Khan. During an interaction with Komal Nahta on his podcast Game Changers, Rohit dismissed any such rumours. "Nahi, aisa kuch nahi," he said, clearing the air around the speculation.

He further elaborated, "Ek respect hai humare beech mein, aur Dilwale ke baad yeh hua ki immediately humne apna production house khola. Humne decide kiya ki hum apni filmein banayenge — agar loss bhi ho to humara ho. Jabki loss nahi hua tha." Shetty mentioned that even though the film did not perform well at the domestic box office, it did well overseas. Dilwale was produced by Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan under their banner Red Chillies Entertainment.

Rohit Shetty’s work front

The filmmaker, who created Bollywood's first cop universe with his films Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, is now working on his first biographical drama. He is adapting the autobiography of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, titled Let Me Say It Now, for the screen.

The film will be headlined by actor John Abraham. Reportedly, Tamannaah Bhatia has also been roped in for the project. Unlike his cop entertainers, this yet-untitled movie marks a tonal shift for Shetty as he takes on his first real-life story. Sources say the film, backed by Shetty, Abraham, and a studio, is being mounted on a budget of over Rs 100 crore and will chronicle the supercop’s storied 36-year career.

Shah Rukh Khan’s work front

The year 2023 saw Shah Rukh Khan deliver three back-to-back hits at the box office: Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. He is currently working on the film King, which will mark his daughter Suhana Khan’s theatrical debut. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, will feature Abhishek Bachchan as the antagonist.
