Anurag Kashyap apologises
He wrote in Hindi, "In anger, I forgot my bounds while responding to someone on social media. And in that anger, I spoke ill of the whole Brahmin community. The members of this community have been a part of my life, will continue to exist, and have contributed a lot to my life. They're all hurt by my comment today. My family is hurt. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, are hurt by my anger and the way I spoke."

He added, "By saying such a thing, I have distorted my own point of view. I sincerely apologize to this community, to whom I did not want to say this, but in a fit of rage wrote it while replying to someone's nasty comment. I apologise to all my fellow colleagues, to my family, to the society, for the way I spoke, for the abusive language. From now on, I'll be working on it. I'll work on my anger. And if I have to speak, I will use the right words. I hope you do forgive me."
About Anurag Kashyap's controversial comment
On Instagram, Kashyap posted a series of messages criticising the CBFC and the Brahmin community.
In response to a user's comment on his post, Kashyap angrily responded with, "Brahmin pe main mtoonga... koi problem?"** This remark intensified the backlash.
An RTI activist, Atish Tiwari, has filed a complaint at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai.
The backlash erupted after Anurag made a comment while responding to criticism of ‘Phule’, which is a biopic based on social reformers Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule. The remark, interpreted by some as casteist, sparked outrage online and triggered calls for legal action.
Following the controversy, Kashyap's daughter, Aaliyah, along with his family and colleagues, received rape and death threats from online trolls. The director also faced legal action as an FIR was filed against him in Jaipur for the use of abusive language towards the community.
