It is now confirmed that Mumbai-based India Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has cancelled his trip to Goa. Just a month ago, Jaiswal, 23, had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), citing his intentions to play for Goa in the upcoming domestic season. However, on Email request Thursday, he made a U-turn, sending another email to the MCA expressing his desire to continue playing for the 42-time Ranji Trophy champions.
"It's now up to Mumbai's Selection Committee and Cricket Improvement Committee [CIC] to decide on Jaiswal's Mumbai future," MCA secretary Abhay Hadap told mid-day on Friday. "He [Jaiswal] sent us an email on Thursday evening stating that he had curtailed his plans to shift his family to Goa and said, âNow, I intend to play for Mumbai'. He also mentioned in his email that he is yet to hand over the NOC issued by the MCA to the Goa Cricket Association and the BCCI," said Hadap, adding that he would be happy to see the left-handed opener continue playing for Mumbai.

"We [MCA] feel good that he is willing to play for Mumbai again and we will be happy [to have him back], but all decisions will be made at the Apex Council meeting and also depends on the selection committee and CIC," added Hadap, who however, did not give a timeframe mentioning when the MCA will decide on Jaiswal's Mumbai future. Hadap said: "We will take a decision on this in our upcoming Apex Council meeting, whenever that is scheduled. Whatever decision we take, thereafter, it's up to the selection committee and the CIC to decide whether or not they want to include him in the probables for the off-season camp."

Jaiswal will ideally be a part of India's Test tour to England next month, and Goa Cricket Association secretary Shamba Naik Dessai feels that the player's busy schedule may have prompted his decision to return to Mumbai. "Considering Jaiswal's busy schedule, he understands that he may not be available to play for Goa, and in that scenario, we would then be left with one guest player short. So, given there's a mutual understanding between the both of us, we consider his decision," Dessai said.
