The Cricket Association of Bengal received a bomb threat via email during the ongoing IPL 2025 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. The threatening message, sent from an unidentified email address, was discovered in CAB's official inbox while the match was underway.
Law enforcement authorities were immediately alerted, and a formal investigation has been launched. Security measures at Eden Gardens were promptly intensified to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators present at the iconic venue.
This security concern emerged just hours after the Indian Armed Forces conducted Operation Sindoor, a strategic military operation executed in retaliation for the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 7. The IPL match in Kolkata was the first to take place following the high-profile counterstrike.
In a coordinated mission involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, nine terrorist strongholds were precisely targeted and neutralized. According to official sources, the strikes successfully hit four locations within Pakistan, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya, as well as five sites in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

The operation aimed to eliminate senior leadership and infrastructure linked to the terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), both of which have been implicated in orchestrating attacks on Indian soil. Military sources confirmed that the strikes were meticulously planned and executed with advanced precision munitions.
This marked India's most extensive military action inside undisputed Pakistani territory since the 1971 war, underscoring a new level of strategic assertiveness by New Delhi in counter-terrorism efforts.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India received clearance from the Indian government to host match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals match on Thursday in Dharamshala at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. However, the May 11 match has been shifted from Dharmshala to Mumbai, and the new date for the match will be updated soon.
"BCCI gets clearance from the government to host tomorrow's match in Dharamshala, but the May 11 match shifted to Mumbai from Dharmshala, the fresh date for the match will be updated soon," BCCI sources told ANI.
PBKS' next fixture against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dharamsala is also reworked as the airlines have cancelled their flight operations in 11 cities across north, northwestern and central India till May 10 which include Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot.
