Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the India-Pakistan ceasefire announced on Saturday, but refrained from making an official comment, stating that he does have complete information on the matter.
"It's a good thing. I can't speak about it officially as I don't have all the information. I was on tour when I learnt about the ceasefire. I'll speak about it after getting all the details," Fadnavis told reporters when informed of the development.
He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has grown stronger and demonstrated its capabilities on the global stage.
CM had earlier offered prayers at the renowned Mahakal Temple in Ujjain.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had earlier confirmed in New Delhi that the directors general of military operations (DGMO) of both India and Pakistan had agreed to halt all military actions - including firing on land, air, and sea - effective from 5 pm on Saturday.
This announcement followed a statement from US President Donald Trump, who confirmed that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" after talks mediated by the United States.
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting at his official residence on Saturday, attended by key members of his Cabinet and the national security establishment, reported news agency ANI.
The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The meeting was held following the announcement that India and Pakistan had reached an understanding to halt all firing and military activity on land, at sea, and in the air.
Meanwhile, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India's consistent policy against terrorism. "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," he wrote.
Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed the media, stating that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations had contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon to initiate the ceasefire agreement.
