The traffic police has officially given the green light for the bridge to be shut down from tonight. The closure is set to last two years and is expected to significantly impact travel routes, emergency access, and the lives of local residents and businesses

Locals questioned the timing of closure of the bridge without a clear rehabilitation plan

The police had started slowing traffic from 6 pm, three hours before the closure was scheduled

However, around 8 pm, angry locals reached the bridge and began protesting. They have demanded that they be relocated first

Around 9 pm, the police tried placing barricades on the bridge, but the protestors removed them

The agitation was briefly halted, giving some some respite to the commuters

However, the residents resumed their protest, leading to slow movement of traffic on the bridge again

By 10 pm, the bridge was partially opened for traffic
