Hundreds gathered to witness the depiction of Jesus’ suffering, crucifixion and resurrection.
The event included 15 Stations of the Cross, from Jesus’ arrest to his resurrection.
The event was organised by the Catholic Secular Forum (CSF), a community-based Christian NGO
Joseph Dias, general secretary of the CSF, led the initiative, which he started over 35 years ago
The enactment aimed to raise awareness about the significance of Good Friday as a day of mourning and reflection
According to Dias, the enactment also served as a dignified form of protest against rising intolerance and discrimination.
Actors portrayed key biblical characters, re-enacting the final hours of Jesus’ life.
Notable stations included Jesus’ sentencing by Pontius Pilate, his three falls, and his meeting with his mother.
The programme drew parallels with similar enactments held in the Philippines and Latin America
The walk began from the 7th Road area and also included performances at the Pratiksha Nagar Residents Association premises.
The performance culminated in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
Dias explained that the purpose of the enactment was to offer a Christian response of prayer and penance when human efforts have failed
He compared the Good Friday public prayers and messages to those delivered by Gandhi and Lokmanya Tilak to unite the people
Police divert traffic even as commuters try to catch a glimpse of the enactment
