IN PHOTOS: Skywalk near Western Express Highway in Andheri to be ready for pedestrians soon

The skywalk at NS Phadke Road in Andheri (East), near the Western Express Highway, is nearing completion. Construction of the skywalk began after the new flyover, connecting Gokhale bridge, was opened. Once ready, the skywalk will ease pedestrian movement in the area (PICS/ASHISH RAJE)

The Barfiwala flyover, which connects to the Gokhale Bridge in Andheri, opened in July. The second part of the Gokhale bridge is yet to be completed. It will be connected to the second arm of the flyover

The structures will benefit pedestrians and motorists as Andheri station sees a heavy footfall of commuters  

Declaring the Gokhale bridge dilapidated, the BMC closed it in November 2022 and assured that it would be completed by May 2023

The bridge is likely to be ready by April or May

Currently, only light vehicles can ply on the bridge. It is not yet open for buses

Meanwhile, the work of the JVLR flyover in Jogeshwari is also progressing. To alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Andheri West and Jogeshwari East, the BMC proposed a 5.08-km flyover from New Link Road (near Infinity Mall), Andheri West to Poonam Nagar, JVLR, Jogeshwari East

The Mumbai Metro Line-6 work progressing on JVLR, Jogeshwari. The network will link Swami Samarth Nagar in Lokhandwala and Vikhroli. The public commissioning of the line has been pushed to 2026
