The breakthrough marks the completion of a 1.647-kilometre-long tunnel between Andheri (East) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Pics/CMO

The tunnel, with a finished diameter of 6.35 meters, is the first underground tunnel constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as part of its metro network

The momentous occasion was commemorated at a formal ceremony attended by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Joining him were MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Additional Commissioners Vikram Kumar (IAS) and Ashwin Mudgal (IAS), along with other senior dignitaries

The TBM for Metro Line 7A achieved its breakthrough after successfully completed the first underground tunnel in Mumbai’s metro network by the MMRDA, Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner said

"The engineering feat paves the way for connecting the operational Red Line (Line 7), which runs from Dahisar to Gundavali, with the airport extension,” he said
