The Hutatma Chowk got a glow-up on Wednesday, on the eve of Maharashtra Day, as the city prepares to celebrate the spirit of unity and sacrifice

Maharashtra Day is celebrated amid a mix of public and private events

The day is marked by parades, official ceremonies, and political addresses to commemorate the state's formation

Located beside Flora Fountain, this site stands as a solemn memorial to the members of the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti who were martyred during a peaceful protest that ended in police firing

Hutatma Chowk, or Martyrs' Square, in south Mumbai honors the memory of 107 individuals who lost their lives in police firing during the 1955–56 Samyukta Maharashtra movement that led to the formation of the state

The site features a neatly maintained lawn, an eternal flame, and a green patch shaped like the state of Maharashtra

Alongside Flora Fountain, which was installed in 1869 and designed by R. Norman Shaw in Britain, the memorial stands near the location of the old Churchgate, one of the three gates of the historic Fort
