The ceremony took place at the Hutatma Smarak Statue in Mumbai on Thursday morning. Fadnavis described Maharashtra as India’s most progressive state.
He credited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Babasaheb Ambedkar as guiding figures in the state’s journey. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s goal of transforming Maharashtra into a trillion-dollar economy.
He stated that a new 100-day development initiative will be announced in the coming days. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar hoisted the national flag at the City Police Headquarters Parade Ground in Pune.
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais hoisted the flag during a separate ceremony held in Mumbai. The Governor paid homage to the contributions of the people in the formation of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unfurled the national flag at Saket Maidan in Thane. Shinde honoured the memory of the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray visited Hutatma Chowk to pay his respects. Supriya Sule, NCP MP from the Sharad Pawar faction, also offered tribute at Hutatma Chowk.
The Samyukta Maharashtra Parishad was the forerunner to the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti. It was established on 1st November 1955 in Pune by Keshavrao Jedhe.
The Parishad campaigned for a separate Marathi-speaking state with Bombay as its capital. The movement laid the foundation for the formation of Maharashtra state in 1960.
On Tuesday, CM Fadnavis announced a cabinet-approved policy focused on the maritime sector. The new policy promotes shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and ship repair within the state.
Fadnavis said the initiative will build a robust industrial ecosystem for maritime activity. The policy is expected to contribute significantly to economic growth and job creation.
He emphasised India’s potential in the shipbuilding and ship recycling sectors. The maritime policy is part of Maharashtra’s broader economic revival strategy.
The cabinet also addressed aid for victims of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack. The attack on 22nd April resulted in the loss of lives of individuals from Maharashtra.
The state government will provide Rs 50 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased. In households without an earning member, a government job will be offered to a family member.
CM Fadnavis confirmed that Santosh Jagdale’s daughter will receive a government position. This decision was taken under the Chief Minister’s special discretionary powers.

The job assurance had been previously discussed and is now officially sanctioned. Fadnavis reiterated the state’s responsibility to support the families affected by the tragedy.
