Thane celebrates Maharashtra Day with tributes and sanitation worker honours

On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Thane Municipal Corporation held a flag hoisting ceremony followed by a special felicitation of 12 outstanding sanitation workers to also mark International Labour Day

Following the flag hoisting, a felicitation ceremony was held in honour of sanitation workers on the occasion of International Labour Day.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) commemorated the 66th Maharashtra Foundation Day with great enthusiasm and respect at its headquarters in Pachpakhadi. The celebration began at 7:15 am with Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao hoisting the national flag in the presence of senior officials, employees, and dignitaries. The ceremony was conducted against the backdrop of the national and state anthems, with Additional Commissioners Sandeep Malvi and Prashant Rode, along with staff, saluting the Tricolour.

Following the flag hoisting, a felicitation ceremony was held in honour of sanitation workers on the occasion of International Labour Day. Twelve exemplary sanitation workers were recognised for their dedication and service. Commissioner Rao presented each of them with a shawl, a memento, and a holy basil (Tulsi) plant as tokens of appreciation. The honoured workers were Prakash Balakrishna Potdar, Kishori Budhaji Dalvi, Vishal Sakharam Mohite, Suresh Kalu Chaudhary, Sarubai Dhanraj Shewalkar, Nagesh Shyam Kamble, Pratibha Gajanan Gaikar, Lata Ramesh Kamble, Megha Laxman Dudhawade, Mayuri Mahesh Mohite, Ganesh Shivaji Shidardi, and Nagnath Ganpat Vanchewad.

Subsequently, a floral tribute was paid to portraits of eminent personalities at the Late Narendra Ballal Hall by Commissioner Rao. He was joined by Additional Commissioners Malvi and Rode, as well as Deputy Commissioners G. G. Godepure, Manish Joshi, Umesh Birari, Shankar Patole, Madhukar Bodke, Sachin Sangle, TMT Manager Bhalchandra Behre, Assistant Commissioners Sopan Bhaik and Bhalchandra Ghughe, Deputy City Engineer Gunvant Zambre, and Shubhangi Keswani.

Further tributes were offered at prominent locations across Thane. At Masunda Lake, Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode garlanded the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Godepure, Shankar Patole, and Assistant Commissioner Bhaik. Similarly, floral tributes were paid to the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Court Naka and Thane Station, with the same officials present.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement at Hutatma Chowk on the state's Foundation Day.

"Maharashtra Day is an important occasion for India's most progressive state. Maharashtra, which follows the path shown by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Balasaheb Ambedkar, is determined not to stop. Our effort is to make it a trillion-dollar economy," CM Fadnavis said. He added that details of a new 100-day development initiative will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, in Pune, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar unfurled the national flag at the City Police Headquarters Parade Ground.

In another ceremony held in Mumbai, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais unfurled the national flag and paid homage to the state's foundation day.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also unfurled the flag at Saket Maidan in Thane and paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.
