The Western Railway recovered a sum of Rs 21 crore in one month (April 2025) in just fines from WR's commuters from which Rs 6 crore is from ticketless commuters.

"The highly motivated ticket checking team under the supervision of senior commercial officers of Western Railway organised several ticket checking drives in
the month of April 2025, thereby recovering an amount to the tune of Rs 21.89 crore, which also includes Rs 6 crore from the Mumbai Suburban section," WR's chief public relations officer Vineet Abhishek said.

The huge numbers are attributed as many as 3.10 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers and fines also included unbooked luggage cases. "To prevent unauthorised entry in AC local trains, frequent surprise ticket checking drives are also being carried out. As a result of these drives more than 6,000 unauthorised passengers have been penalised in April 2025 and Rs 20.24 lakh collected in fines," he said.

"Ticket checking drives are being carried out continuously over Mumbai suburban local services, Mail/Express as well as passenger trains and holiday special trains on the Western Railway," he added.
