CCTV grab of the bike under the rear wheel of the truck at CP Tank Circle
An 18-year-old girl allegedly died after she fell from a two-wheeler and was run over by a truck near CP Tank Circle on Monday. The scooter was being ridden by her friend, who did not possess a valid driving licence. The deceased, identified as Siya Uttam Mehta, was riding pillion on a Suzuki Access scooter driven by her friend, Dinika Vicky Bafna, also 18 years of age. Both were residents of South Mumbai.
They were reportedly on their way to Kumbhar Tukda from CP Tank Circle when they attempted to overtake a motor truck from the left side at high speed. According to VP Road police officials, Dinika suddenly applied the brakes, causing the scooter to skid. Both girls fell to the ground, and Siya was fatally injured after the rear wheel of the truck ran over her head.
After the accident, police found that Dinika had recently turned 18 and was riding the two-wheeler without a valid driving licence. She told the police she was speeding because there was less traffic on the road. The truck driver, Subhash Nawalkishan Singh, who fled the scene without offering any help or medical aid to the injured girl, has also been booked. He was traced by the police later and placed under arrest. The incident has been registered under Sections 106(1), 281, and 125(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 134(a)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
