Mumbai: 50-year-old biker dies after skidding on road work debris in Bandra

A 50-year-old scrap dealer died after being hit from behind by a dumper on Hill Road near Bandra police station. He fell allegedly due to loose gravel scattered on the road, left there from ongoing road work on one side.

According to the family, the dumper driver hit him from behind, causing him to get stuck under the front tire. The dumper then dragged him for a few metres, resulting in his death. The family has urged the police to investigate whether the fall was caused by the road condition and the gravel lying on the road. They have also demanded that the contractor responsible be held accountable.

The accused driver has been identified as Siddharth Ganesh Kamble, 27. According to Bandra police, the incident took place on Tuesday around 12 pm, when the deceased, Dinesh Bhanwarlal Jain, was returning home to Santacruz from his scrap shop. A private dumper hit him from behind, causing him to fall. The driver, allegedly unaware, dragged him for a few metres near the Lucky Junction Hotel, leading to his death.

When asked whether the accident occurred due to gravel scattered on the road, on one side of Hill Road near Bandra police station, an officer said, "We are still examining the exact cause. So far, the dumper driver has been arrested, and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."

"We have seen the spot and CCTV footage showing the driver dragging him. There is also gravel lying on the other side of the road leading towards the railway station. We want the police to investigate thoroughly and arrest everyone responsible, not just the driver," said Yogesh Jain, the deceased's nephew.

Jain further said that his uncle was survived by the two children, 26 and 24 years old, and he was a scrap dealer. "Ten minutes before the incident my dad had called and spoke to him. He said he was fine and would call back as he was heading home soon. A few minutes later, we were informed about the accident."

"In Mumbai, roads are dug up everywhere, creating traffic congestion and increasing the risk of accidents. The authorities must take proper measures to ensure smooth traffic flow in such areas and prevent such tragic incidents," Jain added.
