The Maharashtra government has announced a complete toll waiver for all four-wheeler electric passenger vehicles and buses on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and Samruddhi Mahamarg. Besides complete toll exemption, a 50 per cent toll concession will be given on other state and national highways under the jurisdiction of the state Public Works Department (PWD). This comes as the state cabinet on Tuesday approved the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, 2025.
With an aim to push for green mobility and encourage usage of EVs, the state government, besides announcing toll waivers, has exempted all electric vehicles sold and registered in the state from motor vehicle tax and registration certificate or renewal fees. Moreover, the government will offer discounts on the purchase of EVs till 2030.
As per the statement issued by the office of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a 10 per cent discount will be offered against the original price of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (non-transport), and buses of state transport undertakings and private, state/urban transport undertakings.

Similarly, a discount of 15 per cent on the price will be given for electric three-wheeler cargo vehicles, four-wheelers (transport), four-wheeler light cargo vehicles, and electric tractors and combine harvesters.
"Manufacturing and consumption will get a boost due to this concession and subsidies," Fadnavis said in a statement. The statement further mentioned that the policy will remain in force till 2030. "For implementation of this policy for the next five years, a provision of R1993 crore has been made," said the CM.
To ensure that those buying these EVs don't face charging issues, the state government has assured it will create charging facilities and infrastructure at every 25 km distance on the state and national highways, the statement added.
