A 35-year-old man was on Friday morning seriously injured after Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus ran over his arm in Andheri (east) area of Mumbai, the officials said.
According to an official statement from the BEST's Command & Control Centre (Traffic), the incident took place at around 9:20 am near Nelco Signal in Andheri east. The incident involved a wet lease bus operated by Mateshwari Travels which was attached to the Majas depot.
It said that the incident took place when, the bus, running on the route no. 333 towards Mahakali Caves, was passing through the area and as it approached the Nelco Signal, a two-wheeler suddenly emerged from a bylane and collided with the right rear part of the bus.
The biker was identified as Ismail Suratwala, a resident of Mohammed Ali Road in south Mumbai. He fell on the road and his left arm was run over by the rear tyre of the BEST bus, the officials said.
They said that the injuries to Suratwala's arm were severe, and he was immediately taken to Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri east, where doctors began performing an emergency surgery on him.
The MIDC Police Station officials rushed to the spot following the incident and the BEST bus was taken to the police station.
Police were in the process of registering a case.
BEST bus driver booked after 21-year-old dies in accident at Prabhadevi in Mumbai
The incident comes days after a 21-year-old man was killed in an accident at Prabhadevi in central Mumbai, an official said.
The BEST bus driver involved in the accident was booked by the Mumbai Police, the official said.
According to the police, the accident, involving a BEST bus, took place at around 8:30 pm on April 25 near the Decathlon Building on Appasaheb Marathe Road in Prabhadevi.
The BEST bus on route number 171, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, struck the man who was later identified as Sarthak Suryakant Jangam, 21, a delivery executive.
The impact caused him to fall on the road and he came under the wheels of the bus, resulting in severe head injuries leading to his death.
Following the incident, the NM Joshi Marg Police has registered a case against the bus driver and further investigations in the matter are underway, said an had earlier official.
