Here are excerpts from a chat on the changing global view on Indian films...

What brings you to India?
Tribeca started nine years ago and I had never made a trip to India. I am here to personally scout for Indian films that can be a part of the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011. I think there's enormous potential for Indian filmmakers to be part of a much broader spectrum.

What are your parameters foru00a0 selecting a film?
We look at the initial response. Also there's a large chunk of Indian population in New York. Good cinema is good irrespective of where it comes from. The idea is to come to Bollywood and pick and choose a product that matches our sensibilities.

Has the outlook towards Indian films changed in the West?
Yes, to a large extent. We released Dev Benegal's Road, Movie in the US and it got a great response. There's a distribution division that takes care of giving the film maximum exposure. I think the American audience is extremely curious to know what's happening in Bollywood. Films like 3 Idiots and My Name Is Khan have done really good business, opening avenues for other films.

Any film makers you are excited to meet during your trip?
I am looking forward to Aamir Khan's Dhobi Ghat. There's been great buzz about it. Besides that, I am also meeting some filmmakers from South India.
