Nani and SS Rajamouli
Telugu star Nani and noted filmmaker SS Rajamouli first worked together in the hit film Eega. Years later, it seems like the two will be reuniting. The RRR director graced the pre-released event of Nani's upcoming film 'Hit: The Third Case' where he made a major announcement regarding his dream project, the 'Mahabharatham'. Director SS Rajamouli has often expressed a desire to make a 10-part franchise on one of the greatest epics of all time.
At the pre-release event of Hit: The Third Case, Rajamouli was asked by the anchor if there was any truth in rumours doing the rounds that the ace director had fixed the character actor Nani was to play in the franchise.
In reply, SS Rajamouli very reluctantly disclosed that the character hadn't been fixed but what had been fixed was that Nani would definitely be a part of the franchise. He said that only Nani's casting has been fixed.

Meanwhile, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan also recently revealed that making a film on the Mahabharata is a dream for him too. He recently shed light on its progress and also revealed if he'd act in it. The Dangal actor is hoping to commence the project this year to roll it out in multiple parts. However, he maintains that before it can get materialised, the writing itself will take a couple of years.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir said, "We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part." However, he clarified that he would be the producer and not the director. Aamir elaborated, "I don't think you can tell the Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale. It's too early to say, but we may need multiple directors." He cited the example of The Lord of the Rings.
It may be recalled that Rajamouli is currently working on a film with actor Mahesh Babu, tentatively being referred to as SSMB29.
A considerable portion of the film, which is being made on a lavish budget, was shot at Odisha. The film, apart from Mahesh Babu, features Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran among others. The film, an action adventure with some amount of history and mythology, is expected to be released in 2027.
